Willie Thomas Harris, Jr., 80, passed away on June 20, 2026. Born to the late Cora Edith Underhill and Willie Thomas Harris, Sr., he was also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Arlene Harris; brothers, William "Billy" Osber Harris and David Wayne Fowler; stepfather, Wesley Fowler; and granddaughter, Amanda Childress.
Willie served for his country in the Vietnam War and worked at Phillip Morris for 28 years as a mechanic before retiring. He was an active member for 30+ years at Southside Baptist Church, where he was an usher, played music, and was part of the brotherhood. In addition to being active in his church, Willie was active in many organizations, including being a member of and former commander of American Legion Post 284, Coast Guard auxiliary reserve, VFW, The Forty & Eight, and American Legion. Willie was a lifelong avid reader who loved to learn about everything from history to medicine, he loved it all. He enjoyed staying busy and did so by working on cars, traveling, and working in the garden and outdoors, Willie was also an avid hunter and fisherman,
Willie is survived by his children, Thomas Dwayne Harris, Barbara Ann Harris, and Daphne Atkinson Marshall (Jason); eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; siblings: James Fredrick Harris (Dahlia), Janie Belle Smith, Weslie Jean Bradshaw (John), Charles Henry Fowler (Peggy), Betty Jo Young, Ricky Fowler, and Lisa Marie Bookhamer; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family members.
The funeral will be at 10:00am on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Southside Baptist Church, 2007 Boydton Plank Rd, Petersburg, VA, 23805. The family will receive friends the afternoon prior from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral at Southlawn Memorial Park.
