William "Ted" Theodore Sowards

William “Ted” Theodore Sowards, 81, of Disputanta, VA, departed this life Sunday, August 17, 2014. He was preceded in death by the late E. W. and Marie McAllister Sowards and a sister Mary Stewart. William proudly served his country in the Army as a MP. He retired from Continental Can after 30 plus years of service. William was a Charter Member of the Burrowsville Fire Department Company 4. He loved woodworking, making clocks, fishing, giving back to his community by helping anyone in need, and spending time with family and friends. William is survived by his loving and devoted wife Ann Sowards, sons, Doug Sowards and wife, Connie and Tony Sowards, grandchildren, Chandler, Jarred, Heather and Jasmine, great-grandchildren, Cody and Justin, sister, Jean Goodrich, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be officiated by the Reverend Gary Ross at 10am Thursday, August 21, 2014 in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens; 11302 Merchants Hope Rd, Hopewell, VA 23860.
