William "Bill" Mitchell, of Chester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025 at the VA Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served his country with honor.
Bill was married to the love of his life, Wanda (Fowler) Mitchell, for 52 devoted years. Together they built a loving family, including their children, Jennifer Henderson (Jim) and Joshua; and their treasured grandsons, Beau and Beckett. He is also survived by his brothers, Randy (Kathy), Alan (Susan), and Tim (Julie); as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maybell; father, Edward Sr. (“Bubba”); and brother, Edward Jr. (“Lucky”).
A man of deep character, Bill was known for his resilience and unwavering love for his family. Despite being in a wheelchair for the past five years, he continued to travel, explore, and embrace life. He especially cherished his trips to visit family and friends. The Amish Country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a place he visited twice each year, was a favorite of his.
Bill was passionate about the outdoors — hunting, fishing, and especially attending his grandsons’ sporting events brought him great joy. He was a faithful member of Varina Baptist Church in Henrico, Virginia. His faith helped him through all of the health trials he experienced.
He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and perseverance.
