William Dwaine Wells

August 26, 1949 — May 19, 2026

William Dwaine Wells, 76, of Chester, Virginia, passed at home on May 19, 2026.

Born on August 26, 1949, in Hopewell, Virginia, he was the son of the late William Hezekiah Babcock Wells and Theresa Padgett Wells. A graduate of Hopewell High School's Class of 1967, Dwaine remained connected to his roots. He was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in Hopewell, where he served as an elder, board chair, and leader of several committees. Dwaine shared 55 years of marriage with his wife, Jennie Butler Wells. Together they built a loving family that includes their two sons: Christopher Wells (Angie) of Fallbrook, California, and Preston Wells (Bridgett) of Gloucester Point, Virginia. He was a proud PawPaw to Caitlyn and Noah Wells of Gloucester Point. He is also survived by his sister, Terri Wells Hedgepeth of Hopewell and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents as well as a special aunt and uncle, Juanita and Clarence Hall.

An avid outdoorsman, Dwaine found joy in fishing, hiking through the mountains, tending to his yard, and birdwatching. He was also known for his wonderful sense of humor and the laughter he brought to those around him. These hobbies reflected his deep appreciation for nature's beauty and provided him with countless cherished moments spent in the great outdoors.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to AGC Hospice and US Renal in Colonial Heights for the compassionate care they provided during his final days.
