Virginia Andrews Newbill, 96, a longtime resident of Dinwiddie County and widow of Samuel Edward Newbill, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Friday, November 1, 2013, with her family at her side. Born December 18, 1916 in Sutherland, VA, she was the daughter of the late Waverly Archer and Eva Moody Andrews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Heath. As a registered nurse, Mrs. Newbill worked as the plant nurse at Titmus Optical Co. and at the old Petersburg General Hospital. She was a lifetime member of Ocran United Methodist and was the oldest living member. She lived in Dinwiddie County until 2004, when failing health caused her to move to Atlanta to be close to family. Virginia was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, who was always there for anyone in need. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Thykeson, son-in-law, Clint, and grandchildren, Alex and Maddie, all of Alpharetta, Georgia, a sister, Adelaide Long of Fairfax Station, VA, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 8th at Ocran United Methodist Church, 20221 Cox Road, Sutherland, VA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
