Virginia Wrenn Haddon Bragan, of Dinwiddie County, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at her home. She was born June 19, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Sidney Thomas and Mary Waldron Wrenn. Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband, C. Forrest Haddon, Sr. and her second husband, Lt. Col. James M. Bragan; her brothers Willie B. Wrenn and Bernard S. Wrenn; sister, Hortense W. Gordan; step children, Shirley H. Micklem, Charles F. Haddon, Jr., James H. Bragan, and Judith B. Flannery. Virginia will be remembered for her ability to always find the positive in every challenge in her life. She also had the wonderful gift of being able to find good in every person and had a very quick wit. Virginia was an active charter member of Western Heights Baptist Church. She was one of the original prayer partners who had the vision of a new Baptist church in Dinwiddie County. Her life centered around her love for Jesus Christ, her church and family. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school director, President of the WMU, and many other positions in the church. She also volunteered as the church secretary for many years. She worked side by side with her first husband, Forrest, in his hardwood floor business until his death in 1961. She was a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Southside Virginia Home Builders Association, a member of the Fort Lee Officer’s Wives Club, greeter for AARP, and a member of the Petersburg Christian Women’s Club. She was also an avid traveler throughout the United States and abroad. She is survived by her four daughters, Penelope H. Edwards (James) of Brandon, MS, Betty H. Mayes (Jack), Brenda H. Reese (Ray) and Sue H. Henshaw (Donnie) all of Dinwiddie County; step-daughters, Joan B. Williamson (Ray) of San Diego, CA, Janis B. Balda (Wes) Unity, ME, Vicki N. Bragan of Nova Scotia, Canada and a very special red-headed step child, Gene R. Blair of Dinwiddie County; five grandchildren, Kimberly N. Bane, Brandon, MS, K. Gray Nester (Molly), Fort Mill, SC, Paul F. Henshaw (Melissa), James D. Henshaw (Alison) and David R. Reese (Brandi), all of Dinwiddie County; eight great grandchildren, Chandler, Jordan, and Carley Bane, Grayson Nester, Haley, Daniel and Samuel Henshaw and David Reese IV, step grandchildren, Jerry Haddon, Lizanne G. Furrow, Marie G. Janjua, Russell Gates, Dotty Linsenmeyer, Mark and Ben Williamson, Becky Colvin, Jessica and Jamie Flannery, Daniel and Samuel Balda and Joanna Stanberry; and many great step-grandchildren; sisters, Jean W. Tucker of Matoaca, Ethel W. Blaha of Chesterfield; brother, Bobby Wrenn (Barbara) of Las Vegas, NV, sister-in-law, Marie H. Wrenn, Freeman, SD. She had many beloved nieces and nephews as well as many extended friends whom she thought of as family. The family will receive visitors at Western Heights Baptist Church, 24416 Cox Rd., North Dinwiddie, VA 23803 on Friday, November 28th from 4 to 7 pm. A celebration of Virginia’s life will held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 29th also at the church with Pastor Ron Sowers, Director of Missions for the Petersburg Baptist Association officiating.
