Timothy "Tim" Shay

Timothy "Tim" Shay of Chester, Virginia passed unexpectedly on September 26, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Donna Shay, of Battle Creek, Michigan. Tim is survived by his children, Jennifer and Andrew Shay; his former wife of 35 years, Dawn Rene; and sister-in-law, Rala Heinen.

Tim was born and raised in Battle Creek and attended the University of Wisconsin graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry Management. After graduation, he began his career as Manager of Vardaman Forestry then proudly created and co-owned the firm of Mott & Shay Consulting Foresters. Upon semi-retirement and along with his wife, he purchased and managed real estate properties in the greater Chesterfield, Virginia area.

Tim's passion in life was being in nature. He loved outdoor adventurers. Tim was an avid traveler, boater, hiker and camper, all of which added to his keen interest in historical events. His boating and travel adventures with Andrew and Jennifer brought him particular joy and fulfillment. Tim was also an enthusiastic reader and enjoyed dining out.

Tim is best known by his children and former wife as having been a devoted and generous family man.
