Gordon Bowman

Thomas Gordon Bowman, 88, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Born in Alamance County, NC, he was the son of the late Mae Overman and W. Riley Bowman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Ted, Leo, and Ralph.

Gordon was a dedicated employee of Honeywell, working as a millwright for many years. He loved country and bluegrass music and enjoyed playing the guitar, banjo, and mandolin. He enjoyed building and crafting and had a love for building and painting birdhouses. Gordon also loved working on his truck and could repair anything. He was truly a renaissance man. Above all, Gordon was a devoted husband and father and cherished his roles as grandfather and great-grandfather.

Left to cherish Gordon's memory is his loving wife of 69 years, Betty Jean Bowman; daughters, Gwen Bowman and Sherry Bowman McClanahan; sister, Adele Ferguson; grandsons, Matt Leonard (Melissa) and Adam Leonard (Nicole); granddaughter, Aidan McClanahan; and great-granddaughters, Madilyn, Mackenzie, and Leighton.

A funeral service for Gordon will be held at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 1:00pm, with interment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour prior at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3196 S Crater Rd., Petersburg, VA 23805 and/or Liberty Baptist Church, 3808 Woodlawn St., Hopewell, VA 23860 in memory of Gordon.
