Teresa Byrd Morgan

November 7, 1955 — August 12, 2025

Teresa Byrd Morgan, 69, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away on August 12, 2025. Born on November 7, 1955, in Charleston, SC, to Monroe and Ada Byrd, Teresa lived a life of dedication to her family, profession, community, and church.

Teresa earned her B.S. from the University of Central Florida in 1984, and her J.D. from the University of Florida in 1987. She began her legal career clerking for Judge Zehmer at the First District Court of Appeals in Tallahassee, FL. Later, she entered private practice in Lake City, FL, where she founded Morgan and Getzan, a law firm specializing in Elder Law and Estate Planning. Teresa was one of only a few Board-certified attorneys in Elder Law in Florida. An active member of the Florida Bar, she served as Chair of the Solo and Small Practice Executive Council. Teresa always took time to mentor young attorneys in the Lake City area. After a distinguished career, she retired to Richmond, VA, to be closer to family.

Teresa was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, affectionately called "Resa" by her extended family. She is survived by her husband of more than 36 years, Dan; and their son, Jason. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Caroline and Amelia; her sisters, Peggy and Karen; Dan's children, Susan and Theresa, and their children, Cooper, Morgan, Ashley, Latham, Reagan, and Kennedy.

Teresa was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lake City, FL, and The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Midlothian, VA. She enjoyed participating in Cursillo, leading women's retreats and devotional groups, and singing. Teresa found joy in serving her community, traveling, learning, and practicing yoga with her cherished "Soul Shine sisters." She also adored her Maine Coon cat, Daphne, who brought her immense happiness.
