Stinson Ivey, Jr., 94, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away in his home on July 25, 2025. He was born on May 28, 1931, in Robeson County, North Carolina, to Stinson Ivey, Sr. and Bertha Hardin Ivey.
In 1956, Stinson married Edith (Brisson) Ivey and soon after, they moved to Hopewell, where he worked at Hercules/Aqualon until his retirement. Stinson frequently pointed out that Edith was the reason for both his longevity and a more wonderful life than he ever imagined. Over their long marriage he enjoyed cherished time with family, gardening, and lots of bluegrass music festivals. He was such an enthusiastic regular at the bluegrass events that some of his favorite musicians came to know him by name. He was a member of Powers Memorial Baptist Church where, for many years, he served as an usher and enjoyed the fellowship of his buddies in the Sunday School class and on the lawn care team.
Stinson was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings, Johnson Ivey, Gilbert Ivey, Bert Ivey, Norley Ivey, Elwood Ivey, Ruby Lockey, and Melba Lou Walters.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Ivey; his sons, Phillip Ivey and Eric Ivey; his daughters, Sherry Ivey and Gay Ivey; his grandson, Luther Stinson Ivey; his great-grandson, Killian Ivey; his sisters, Hazel Owens and Margaret Simmons; and many, many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the physicians and staff at Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists for their excellent care of Stinson over the past few years.
The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home at 1:00 pm, on Monday, July 28, 2025, followed by a service at 2:00 pm, in the same location.
Memorial donations may be made to Powers Memorial Baptist Church, 2807 Jackson Street, Hopewell, Virginia 23860.
