Stanley Ray Combs

March 24, 1940 — June 1, 2026

Stanley Ray Combs passed away June 1, 2026, at the age of 86—pilot, sailor, entrepreneur, hell-raiser, and the most unforgettable man in any room. Stan was born in Washington County, VA, before answering the call to explore the wider world. Stan planted deep roots in Florida, though he never lost his connection to Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Stan served his country in the U.S. Navy, Special Operations; learned to fly; and built his own aviation business. A true force of nature, he lived an authentic life wide open, never meeting a stranger, leaving a memorable impression on everyone, including a seemingly endless supply of colorful stories that you'd be repeating for years. Stan lived life on his own terms. There will never be another one like him; he will be dearly missed.

Stanley is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Linda Greim Combs; his children, Max Combs, Michele Meade, Steven Combs, Sherry Lynn Mayne, and Stanley Ray Combs; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nephews; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Thelma Combs, and brother, Ted "Bud" Combs.

Per Stan's wishes, no formal memorial service will be held. The family encourages you to take a moment to celebrate his memory in your way. Fly high, Stan. You earned it.
