Mrs. Shirley Elizabeth Rogerson, 89, of Dinwiddie, passed away peacefully June 12, 2025. She had a tremendous will to live and battled declining health for the last decade. Shirley was born in Weldon, North Carolina, and moved to Virginia in the late 1950's to work at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company, in Petersburg. It was here she met her husband of 40 plus years, Gerald B. Rogerson, Sr., who passed away in 2017. Shirley is also predeceased by a grandson, Scott; brother, Donald Lee Hamill, and half sister, Rose Hamill Roundtree, both of Weldon, North Carolina. She is survived by a sister, Doris Miller, of Virginia Beach; half siblings, of North Carolina, Nancy, Vickie, Kathy, Ralph, and Mike; four children, Karen Burroughs (Jeff), Chuck (Charlene), Bennette (Debra), and Ricky; six grandchildren, Richard (Aubrey), Daniel (Randi), Charles (Casey), Madeline, Mason, and Molly (Cody); seven great-grandchildren, Richard, Jaxson, Emilia, Liam, Ava, Wade, and Drew. Her eighth great-grandchild is due to arrive in August. She has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a great neighbor and family friend, Jim Draper. Shirley loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love of reading and music spanned her entire life. Her piano and keyboard were always within arms reach even in her golden years. She never saw a classic western she did not like even after seeing it ten times previously. She also enjoyed playing a "good game of Rummy".
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
