Shirley Wright Nesbitt

Shirley Wright Nesbitt, 89, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Shirley was the daughter of the late Joseph M. Moseley and Lizzie W. Roller. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Roy V. Nesbitt.

Shirley was a graduate of Hopewell High School and the former owner, along with her husband, of IGA Grocery in Petersburg. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kim N. Gerner (Bret) and Tonda N. Clary (Lee); grandchildren, Todd Howlett (Jessica), Hunter Perkins, Brad Gerner (Laura), Colton Clary (Isha), Justin Clary (Nadia), and Megan Clary; great-grandchildren, Brandon Childers, Landon Howlett, Bryson Howlett, Ewan Gerner, Maren Gerner, Cole Clary, Paisley Strickland, and Riley Clary; and a dear friend, Kay Bickings.

The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Linda Ferguson, Karen Slaughter, Janice Atkinson, Paula Robinson, Lynn Nelson, Susan Hall, and all of Shirley's former caregivers for their compassion and support.

A funeral service for Shirley will be held at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11:00am, with interment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park. The family will receive friends the night prior, Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Hopewell Chapel, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
