Shirley Faye Worley Langley, 89, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Born in Wilson, North Carolina, on March 20, 1936. Shirley was predeceased by her high school sweetheart, Bobby Langley, who she was married to for 62 years. She was the fourth oldest of six children. Shirley was also preceded in death by her four sisters, Juanita Langley, Hilda Burke, Inez Etheridge, and Jean Clements; and her brother, Archie Worley.
Shirley is survived by brothers-in-law, Jarold Langley (Mary Sue) and John Pate; sisters-in-law, Anne Ripsom (Frank) and Elaine Langley; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Shirley (and Bobby) are survived by three children and their families, Terrie Langley Edwards (Jon), Rebecca Langley Spain (Wesley), and Robert Todd Langley (Melissa "Missy"); eight grandchildren, Ryan Spain (Megan), Megan Haggerty (Rainer), Daniel Spain (Destiny), Taryn McNutt (Bruce), Connor Langley, Matthew Edwards (Delanie), Rachel Edwards, and Timothy Edwards; and eleven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Abigail and Rhett Spain, Emersyn and Cameryn Haggerty, Finn and Colt McNutt, Lucas Hill, and Grady, Walker, and Sloane Edwards. Additionally, Shirley has a large extended family. She was recently honored at a surprise celebration for her 89th birthday with over 50 family members and friends present.
Shirley grew up in the Wilson area of North Carolina, and moved to Hopewell when she 16. Her primary career was a laboratory technician, at Firestone and Philip Morris Corporations, for over 30 years. She valued family and greatly enjoyed the large family celebrations. She and Bobby were fortunate to have traveled many places in the world, with her favorite trip being to Hawaii. Shirley loved to play all kinds of cards and could play until midnight with her sisters and friends.
Shirley was a long-time member of the Hopewell Moose Lodge and the Wesley United Methodist Church in Hopewell, where she was baptized.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, 11 a.m., at Appomattox Cemetery, in Hopewell, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in Hopewell, Virginia, or families are encouraged to have a dedicated lunch/dinner and value family time, especially grandparents.
