Shirley McVey Jennings

Shirley McVey Jennings, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025 in Chesterfield, VA, with her daughter by her side. Born April 10, 1936 in Lodi, VA she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Eula McVey.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Olen "Skip" Jennings, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Altizer (Jim); her son, Ross Jennings (Christy); and her grandchildren, David Altizer (Amanda), Derek Altizer (Emily) and Dalton Goode. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren, Aiden, Alaina, Mason, and Maddie, who always brought a smile to her face. Shirley is also survived by her sisters, Rita Gregory and Beatrice Freeman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Raised in Pocahontas, VA, Shirley graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1953. She went on to work at Maiden Form in Princeton, WV, before marrying her husband in 1954. In 1984, she began her career with Lowe's in Princeton where she faithfully served customers until retiring at the age of 78. Her strong work ethic and warm presence left a lasting impression on all who met her.

Shirley was of the Baptist faith and carried her beliefs quietly and steadfastly throughout her life. In her later years, she was surrounded by constant love, comfort and companionship - a source of peace that remained with her until the end.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her devotion to family and the deep love she shared with those fortunate enough to be a part of her long life.
