Shirley Jean Edwards

Shirley Jean Edwards, 82, of Mechanicsville, VA, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Born in Portsmouth, VA, she was the daughter of the late Burley Farthing and Mary Bishop Ripley; and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Martin; her second husband, Howard Edwards; and her youngest brother, Charles Evans. Mrs. Edwards was a dedicated member of Northside Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, and had worked for Wal-Mart for many years. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, and spending time with her faithful companion, Charlie. Mrs. Edwards is survived by her two children, Diane Crowson and husband, Patrick, and Thomas "Bubba" Farthing and wife, Valerie; one granddaughter, Jessica DeHart and husband, Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Hailey; three siblings, William Farthing, Sandra Greene, and Debra Schrum and husband, John; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Goochland Animal Shelter in memory of Shirley Edwards.
