Sherry Ann Petty

Sherry Ann Petty, 81, of Chesterfield, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Petty; and her parents, Herman and Muriel Wakem; as well as her older sister, Constance Merrill. Mrs. Petty met her husband while she was a senior in High School at Balboa High in Panama. James was in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Panama. They married on June 8, 1963, at the Balboa First Baptist Church in the Panama Canal Zone. Sherry had many jobs as they moved around the world. First, she earned her Associate's Degree from the Canal Zone College. She worked for the IRS in Texas. Then she worked for the Home Mission Board in the Canal Zone while James was in Thailand. Sherry had many jobs over the years, including preschool teacher and secretary, as well as a hiring assistant at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and GS-12 budget analyst. In her retirement, Sherry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, knitting, sewing, and playing games, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Petty is survived by her loving sons, Jeffrey Petty and Timothy Petty and his wife, Terry; as well as her grandchildren, Thomas Maxwell Petty and his wife, Emily, Samuel Petty, and Maddilyn Petty. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11 a.m., at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
