Ruth Sherer Fry

Ruth Sherer Fry, 91, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025. She was born to the late Blanch Virginia Browder Tutton and Clarence William Sherer. She is also preceded in death by her son, James Edward Denson, Jr.; her daughter, Vickie Denson Harris; her brother, Fred "Bucky" Perry Pierce; and her sisters, Kathleen Sherer Moss and Annette Sherer Jarrett. She was an educated woman with a degree in both nursing and accounting, and worked in both emergencies rooms and on Ft. Lee, where she eventually retired. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hopewell for over 50 years, served as the president of the Richmond Boxer Club, and was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a true matriarch of her family, devoted and loving to her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all others. She loved to sew, breed and show her boxers, and cook for her large family. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 51 years, John E. Fry; her daughter, Sandra Denson Kazebeer (Jack); her son-in-law, C. Daniel Harris; her step-son, Brian Paul Blackwell (Lisa); her grandchildren, Jack D. Kazebeer III (Kathy), Laura Kazebeer Moyers (Jason), Ruthie Harris Racliffe (Keith), Mary Katherine Harris Norton (Bruce), Lucas Blackwell, Julia Blackwell, Adam Blackwell, Olivia Blackwell, Samuel Blackwell, and Evan Blackwell; her great-grandchildren, Kevin Paul Love, Crystal Kazebeer Riggs (Michael), Jack Dean Kazebeer IV (Shaina), Morgan Moyers Arnold (Ryan), Abigail Moyers Munford (Chase), Meaghan Leigh Ratcliffe, Anna Katherine Ratcliffe, Jordan Norton Richardson (Steven), Evan Daniel Norton, and Zachary Harris Norton; and her great-great-grandchildren, Mackenna Daugherty, Talon Riggs, Jaxson Riggs, Bryden Lawhorn, Capri Kazebeer, Harmony Kazebeer, Callie Kazebeer, Hudson Arnold, Olivia Arnold, Leo Munford, Linwood Munford, Nolan Richardson, Charleigh Richardson, and Harris Richardson. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 12 PM, at her church, First Baptist Church, of Hopewell. The family will receive friends an hour prior, and the interment at Blandford Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Crater Community Hospice.
