Rose Uzel

Rose Elko Uzel, 94, of South Chesterfield, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025. She was born on June 16, 1931, in a farmhouse off Woodpecker Road in Chesterfield County, VA, to the late Michael J. Sr. and Mary Hanzlik Elko. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Benjamin T. Uzel, Sr.; her sister, Mary Elko, DC; and brothers, Michael, Frank, Alfred, and William. She is survived by her two sons, Ben Jr., of South Chesterfield, and Paul, of Bumpass, VA; her sister, Alice Baroni, of Downingtown, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose graduated as valedictorian in 1948 from Saint Joseph High School in Petersburg, VA. She received a degree in nursing from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse at Petersburg General Hospital for over 40 years. Mrs. Uzel was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Petersburg, where for several years, she volunteered her talents beautifying the church with her flower arrangements. She enjoyed collecting antiques.
