Robert Vinson Brown, Jr., son of the late Robert, Sr. and Rosa Lee Brown, was born on November 20, 1948, in Neptune, NJ. Following a lengthy illness he departed this life on Monday, March 18, 2025, at his home.
Robert joined church at a very young age at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Temple in Asbury Park, NJ. He attended public schools in the Asbury Park, NJ, School District. Robert enrolled in and attended Winston Salem State University in North Carolina.
He later met and married, Johnnie Mae and from that union, they were blessed with four children. Rason, Geneen and Jamal. The family relocated to the State of Florida.
Robert was a long-haul truck driver for many years accompanied by his brother, Vernon. They affectionately referred to one another as "Jake". He tried his hand in many avenues. He stated often, "You won't know unless you try." After retiring from the trucking business as an owner/operator, he opened a shoe store in Richmond, VA. The store was called "The Shoe Horn" located on Cary Street and catered to women's shoes exclusively. However, Robert did sell high-end shoes to several of the male politicians in Richmond. He also worked as a school bus driver for public schools in the State of Virginia until he developed health issues. He was fond of jazz music, good movies, and fine dining and considered himself to be a man of fashion.
Robert was predeceased in death by his, brother and only sibling, Vernon Brown; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his children, Rita (Kenneth-deceased), of Carteret, NJ, Rason (Voncea), Geneen, and Jamal (Shana), all of Gainesville, FL; niece, Robin Toliver (Dion), of Toms River, NJ; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
