Robert L. Rawes

Robert L. Rawes, 89, of Chester, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, after a short illness.

Born in Rockford, IL, Robert was the son of the late Frank and Sarah Rawes. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lula Childs Rawes; and his sister, Pat Reterson.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Jeff Rawes (Elizabeth Minor) and Candace Rawes-Sullivan (Terry Sullivan); his cherished grandchildren, Will and Emily Rawes, Chelsea, Cole, and Collins Netzley; his sister, Betty Jean Abendroth; and his brothers, Ronald Rawes (the late Sharlee), George Rawes III (Claudia), Frank Rawes, Jr. (Linda), Richard Augustine, and Joseph Augustine (Holly).

Robert proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. A lifelong learner, he earned his Associate's degree with honors from John Tyler Community College in 1977 and later graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He built a distinguished career in engineering, retiring from Verizon in 1995 and later from nTelos in 1997.

After retiring, Robert became a Certified Master Gardener and developed a deep passion for golf. His love for learning never waned-he studied advanced mathematics until his passing, inspiring his family with his lifelong curiosity and dedication.

A gathering to celebrate Robert's life will be held at the family home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Robert's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
