Robert Allen Norris

Robert Allen Norris, 80, of Prince George, VA, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at home. He was born on August 22, 1932 in Ayden, NC, the son of Joe and Sally (Tripp) Norris, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Pruett of Hopewell and his brothers, Tom Norris, Toby Norris and Wilbur Barfield, all of NC and William (Monk) Norris of Hopewell, VA. Mr. Norris was a veteran who served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Along with his brothers he owned and operated Norris Grocery in Hopewell. He enjoyed carpentry, and travelling to North Carolina, and country and bluegrass music. He was a member of the American Legion and the Cawson Street Church of Christ in Hopewell. He is survived by his three children, Michael Norris, Vickie Mitchell and husband David, and Ryan Norris and wife Merry all of Prince George, VA. ; five grandchildren, Erica Norris of Woodbridge, VA, Richard Norris, Anna and Cari Mitchell , and Matthew Norris all of Prince George, VA. Also surviving is Frances Norris of Hopewell, the mother of his children. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces, including Paul Norris and Melody Bennett of Hopewell, VA, Sallie Lewis of Prince George, VA, and Joseph (Scooter) Phelps of Chester, Va. The family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial service on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service, with Minister Mural Worthey of Hopewell Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Robert Norris to Odyssey Hospice Care, 2801 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Va.
