Robert "Bobby" Eugene Griffin, 86, of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away on November 3, 2025. He was the loving husband of the late Joyce Caton Griffin.
Born on January 29, 1939, in Selma, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Wiley Griffin and Ruby Coleman. Bobby was raised in Central Virginia, and after graduating high school, he went on to serve his country as a Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy, where he developed the skills and discipline that would guide him throughout his career. Following his military service, he went on to work mainly in the merchant marine industry as a chief engineer, dedicating many years to ensuring the safety and success of the ships under his care.
Beyond his professional life, Bobby was known for his kind heart, quick wit, and sincere appreciation for the world around him. He found joy and peace in the beauty of nature and could spend hours simply watching birds and wildlife. Bobby's love of animals extended to his cherished four-legged companions, of which there were many. He was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, and almost never missed a game.
Bobby's infectious, corny sense of humor brought laughter (and sometimes eye rolls) to everyone who knew him - especially his beloved wife, Joyce, with whom he shared countless moments of joy and laughter. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving family man, and a true friend to many. His warmth, humor, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bobby is survived by his sons, Glen Andrew Griffin, of Lynchburg, Virginia and Travis Wade Griffin, of Hedgesville, West Virginia; his daughter-in-law, Meghan Kotlanger, of Hedgesville, West Virginia; and his grandchildren, Erica Griffin Hall (Dewey), Danielle Griffin, Brooke Grant (Mike), Hunter Powell, Jude Griffin, and Molly Griffin.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Bobby was also preceded in death by his son, Mark Emory Griffin; and his brother, William C. Griffin.
A viewing and funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The viewing will begin at 1 P.M., followed by the service at 2 P.M. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond Animal League, https://www.ral.org/donate.
