Richard 'Dick' Sutherland, 91, ascended peacefully on February 18th, 2026 with family members at his side. Dick was the son of John Emerson Brown from Idaho Falls and Dorothy Evelyn Carrier of Seattle, Washington. He was the loving husband of and predeceased by Dorothy (Horan) Sutherland where they resided for many years in Primos, Pennsylvania. In Dick's recent days, he resided in Virginia. Dick had two younger siblings, Doreen and Gary, both deceased.
Trained in the United States Navy as an Avionics technician, Dick had a career as an electronics technician and troubleshooter, traveling to client locations both domestic and international. Dick will always be remembered as sharp dressed and a true gentleman. In retirement he enjoyed gardening and providing loving support for Dorothy and her sisters. Nimble on his feet in his youth, Big band music, the Charleston, and the Jitterbug were happy highlights with family and friends.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, whose compassionate care brought dignity and comfort in his final days. Those who wish to remember Dick may do so through a memorial gift to the organization. In accordance with Dick's wishes, a private interment will take place at the Horan gravesite in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. "And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."
