Richard J. Smith

Richard J. Smith, 63, of Spring Grove, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2026. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, son of the late Herbert C. Smith, Sr. and Jackie C. Smith, Ricky created a life filled with kindness, hard work, humor, and devotion to family (which included calling at least 10 times a day to check in on them). He was a loving father, brother, and son, and a friend to many - and will be missed by all. Employed by Rudy L. Hawkins Electrical for 30+ years, he took pride in his work, but just as importantly built lasting friendships with his colleagues. A lifelong outdoorsman, he found his greatest contentment hunting and fishing with his son, Michael and childhood best friend, Rusty Horne by his side. He is survived by his only son and light of his life, Michael J. Smith; and brothers, Herbert C. Smith, Jr. (Diane) and Timothy E. Smith; and trusty hound, Hank. Ricky was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald W. Smith. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 1pm until 2pm, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 2pm.
