Richard Lyle Huffman

Richard Lyle Huffman, of Chesterfield, Virginia, was born on August 5, 1953, in South Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from South Charleston High School in 1971 and went on to build a life filled with family, friendships, hard work, and memories that will be cherished for generations.

Richard retired from DuPont after more than 30 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he became a proud member of the 3,000 Day Club, a testament to the many years of commitment he gave to his career.

While Richard was proud of his accomplishments, his greatest joy came from the people and activities that filled his life. He was an avid WVU sports fan and loved spending time in the mountains and at Deer Creek. He enjoyed camping at Sherwood, playing golf and softball, and, most of all, watching and coaching his children in sports. Whether he was on the sidelines, on the field, or simply cheering from the stands, Richard treasured every opportunity to support his family.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Sabrina Jefferson; sons, Michael Huffman, Chad Huffman, and Troy Huffman and his wife, Susan; and his bonus daughter, Danielle Huffman. He is also survived by eight polecats and one great-polecat who brought tremendous love and joy into his life.

He is also survived by his sisters, Carla Rogers and her husband, Danny, and Gloria Marion; his brother, Jeff Huffman; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Otmer and Retta Huffman; his maternal grandparents, Earl and Sybil Carte; his paternal grandparents, Jim Woody Huffman and Addie Dodd Huffman; his sisters, Linda Susan Hurt and Tammy Huffman; his brother-in-law, Jeff Marion; and his son-in-law, Alonza Jefferson.

He will also be remembered by his lifelong friends, Debbie Huffman, David King, and Gerry Heffler, who remained his friends and companions to the end.

And then there was Dexter - the companion Richard never thought he needed, but who became such a special part of his life.

Richard leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, friendships, family traditions, and memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his spirit will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Rest easy, Richard. Your time on the sidelines may be over, but the memories you helped create will last forever.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son, 3050 W. Hundred Rd in Chester, Virginia. A cookout will follow at 718 Rebel Ridge Road, in South Chesterfield.
