Richard Evelyn Hartman, 85, of Hopewell, passed away peacefully at his daughters home surrounded by his family on September 2, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Winnie Hartman; his loving wife, Edna Hartman; brothers, Wilbur, John and Gilbert; sister, Merriel “Sissy” Ferr; great granddaughter, Sadie Evelyn. Richard was a U.S. Army Veteran and a United States Marine having served in the Korean War. He retired from Honeywell with over 26 years of service and was a member of Local 101. He was also a member of Powers Memorial Baptist Church in Hopewell, VA. In his spare time he loved watching the Redskins and the Atlanta Braves, but most of all he loved God and his family. The time spent with his grandchildren and family will be cherished forever in the hearts of his loved ones. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Asbury (Ronnie); sons, Michael Hartman (Linda), Rick Hartman (Tammy), William Hartman (Vicky); grandchildren, Brandy Bennett, Elyse Asbury, Joshua Asbury, Timothy Hartman (Lauren), Rachael Hartman, Samuel Hartman, Robert Hartman, Stephanie Morris (Adam); great grandchildren, Grant and Campbell Morris and Brendan Hartman; sisters, Lucy Clark and Dorothy Wells; and numerous other extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, September 5, 2015. A funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Powers Memorial Baptist Church 2807 Jackson St. Hopewell, VA 23860.
