On Sunday evening, April 12, 2026, my sweet husband, Reginald Lawrence "Reggie" Michael, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away surrounded by a room full of loving family members.
He recently told me that he wanted some of the same wording shared in his obituary that we had written for my mother's obituary in 2023. He wanted everyone to know that when he passed from his earthly life into eternity, that he would then be safe, healed, and whole, and welcomed into the arms of Jesus, his Savior. They would finally be face-to-face. The faith that Reggie had in Jesus Christ has now become sight for him. Since he had placed his trust in Christ, and had asked for and accepted His forgiveness for his sins, he is now with Him forever. Jesus willingly gave His perfect, sinless life to pay for our sins, in our place, so we don't have to spend eternity separated from God. He offers this to all as a free gift. There is nothing we can do on our own to earn it, and we could never do enough good deeds to "work our way to Heaven." In this age of growing societal confusion, it's vital to realize that there is only ONE way to Heaven, and that's through Jesus Christ. In God's Word, the Bible, Jesus says in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh to the Father, but by me." Reggie's great desire was that his loved ones - family and friends realize their need for a Savior, and ask for and accept God's loving gift of salvation.
~ Debi
Reggie was born on August 9, 1950 in Bergton, Virginia, in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley he loved so much. He especially loved living on his grandparents' farm for about the first 8 years of his life. It was there that fond memories of playing with his cousins were made, and he learned life skills and a strong work ethic that would follow him throughout his life. He could do just about anything that needed to be done, and if he didn't know how, he would figure it out. His father-in-law, Bobby, often said, "Reggie knows a lot of stuff about a lot of things!"
In his early teen years, his family moved to Petersburg, Virginia, and became active members of Grace Baptist Church, where he met his future wife, Debi Page, at a teen kite-flying activity. A couple years later, his family moved a bit up the road to Colonial Heights, where Reggie graduated with the Class of 1968 from Colonial Heights High School. After a year in college, he proudly and honorably served in the United States Navy for twenty years. Serving on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, he was stationed all over the world before retiring in Jacksonville, Florida.
While in Jacksonville, he and Debi were active members of Shindler Drive Baptist Church and then charter members of Hibernia Baptist Church, making many lifelong friends at both places. In 2000, he and Debi moved back home to Virginia to be near their aging parents and other family members. He then started a steel and aluminum railing business. Successfully operating Affordable Railing Company until his health declined, he then turned it over to his great-nephew, Trevor Spinner, who was like another son to him.
One of Reggie's greatest qualities was his friendly, outgoing nature. He was a true people person, loved to talk, and never met a stranger. Besides his love for the Lord, his family was his greatest joy. He was always happiest when being around his loved ones, both friends and family.
Reggie was predeceased by his parents, Joseph F. Michael, Sr. and Wanda June Wittig Michael; grandparents, Lehman and Mary Wittig; step-brother, Lem Michael and wife, Cindy; father-in-law, Charles (Bobby) Page; and mother-in-law, Franki Ford.
He is survived by his wife, Debi Page Michael; son, Jeff Michael; daughters, Melissa Michael Sizemore and husband, Joshua, and April Michael Degen and husband, Donald; grandchildren, Blake, Jenna and husband, Christian, Jaron, Christian, Gage, Sasha, Logan, Alyssa, and Jack; three great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Michael and wife, Lisa; sister-in-law, Patti Allen and husband, Ronnie; brother-in-law, Chuck Page and wife, Renee; Debi's stepfather, Jack Ford; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts, and many, many great friends from their church, Calvary Baptist.
Reggie made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, enduring service-related health conditions for a number of years. We are deeply grateful to the amazing team of doctors, nurses, and countless other staff members at the Richmond Veterans Administration Hospital for their unwavering commitment in caring for him during his many hospital stays over the past four years. We are also grateful that he was able to be at home until his final days.
A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church, 17001 Route 1, Colonial Heights, VA, officiated by his pastor, Dr. Ray Haskett. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will be private.
Should you desire, donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Missions Fund at the address above. The Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home is serving the family.
