Peter Brewster Furbush

Peter Brewster Furbush, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2025, the day after accompanying his beloved choral society for a program. Peter was born in Hopewell, Virginia, on September 15, 1944. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seymour and Jean West Furbush; and his sister, Elisabeth Furbush Bayer. Peter is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Faith; his son, Andrew, both of Hopewell, VA; his daughter, Piper Wallis (Eric), of Sykesville, MD; and grandchildren, Caden Furbush, Thaddeus Wallis, and Stella Wallis. He also leaves a nephew, Isaac Bayer, of Henrietta, NY; and a niece, Rebecca Leistikow, of Minneapolis, MN.

Peter was a 1962 graduate of Hopewell High School. He graduated from Westminster Choir College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Music, and from Virginia State University in 1974 with a Masters in Music Education. He served his country from 1969-72 as a bandsman in the 392nd Army Band at Fort Lee, playing trombone, keyboard, and performing solos. He taught middle school choir, band, guitar, and music appreciation in the Hopewell School System for over 30 years. He was choir director at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hopewell for 26 years. Peter sang with the Richmond-Petersburg Choral Society under Ron Davis for many years. He was currently Director/Accompanist for the Chesterfield County Choral Society, a position he enjoyed for the past 28 years. Peter's deep and abiding love of music was apparent to all and reflected his faith and values. In retirement, besides his music, Peter could be found enjoying family get-togethers, Michigan and UVA football on TV, reading, or doing crossword puzzles.

A visitation for Peter will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private and held at a later time.
