Paul Curtis Laskey, 72, of Hopewell, passed away after a hard and long battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, October 9, 2011. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mr. Laskey was an Air Force Veteran; while in the Air Force he was a Golden Glove Champion. He was a Journeyman Ironworker, and a proud member of Ironworkerâ??s of America Union Local 28. Mr. Laskey was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge, and 40 & 8. While in the American Legion he served many positions such as Post 146 Commander, and District Commander for the state of Virginia. He served as a Counselor for Boys State. He was an American Legion Service Officer for the state of Virginia. The most important project toward the end of his life was his development of the Service Officer Training Program for the American Legion and the state of Virginia; this program provides service disability claims for veterans. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin W. Laskey and Alethea M. Lavasseur. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Kesselring Laskey; children, Deborah Lee Vtipil and husband, Don Jr., Katherine Jane Coffield and husband, Jeffrey, Kevin Wayne Laskey and partner, Mark Colgin, and Keith William Laskey; grandchildren, Amanda Vtipil, Andrea Vtipil, and Kaitlin Creech; sisters, Ruth Martin and Alethea Cormier; special cousin, Susan Seeley; faithful companion, Ynobe; and other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crater Road Veterinary Hospital, 464 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23803-4428, or to the American Legion Post 146, 217 E.
