We are saddened to announce the passing of our rock, Pat Dalton Harris, 79, of Colonial Heights, who died peacefully with his family at his bedside, on September 12, 2025.
Pat was born in 1946, to the late Lewis Hiram Harris and Dorothy Shepperson Harris. He was a member of the first graduating class of Colonial Heights High School in 1965. After graduation, he worked as a Virginia State Highway Inspector for over four years, while serving in the National Guard. In 1970, Pat began his career in public service at Chesterfield County, as a Construction Inspector. He worked his way up at Chesterfield County Utilities and was promoted in 1987, to Superintendent Wastewater Collections.
He was a member of Crater View Baptist Church.
Pat had been a member of the Eike Hunt Club and Matoaca Sportsman Club, where he enjoyed hunting, turkey shoots and good ol' fashioned fellowship with his "Sporty Brothers."
In 1996, Pat introduced his younger son, Ryan to drag racing at Virginia Motorsports Park, where they spent 11 years traveling and racing and making lifelong friends.
In 2004, in preparation of retirement, Pat purchased Jeff's Place, a landmark in Ettrick where he and his family spent over 20 years serving local patrons who he loved like Family.
Pat was predeceased by a son, Jerry A. Worley, Jr.; a daughter, Tracie Lynn Vaughan; a grandchild, Khloe; and his beloved pets, Tootsie, Puppy, Crybaby, Daisy, and Meatball.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 48 years; sons, Corey Harris (Kari) and Ryan Harris; daughter, Donna Gayle Worley Sheffield; brother, Steve Harris (Judy); granddaughters, Jamie and Amy; grandsons, Scott, Kyle, Travis, Trey, Peyton, Maclin, Rafael, Davie, Sarah, and Jerry; and 17 great-grandchildren, who all affectionately called him Poppy aka Popsicle.
Pat was proud of the family that he built. He loved having a good time, live music, and taking his wife, kids, and friends to Oyster Roast. Most of all, he loved his family and his home where he enjoyed many years grilling and gathering by his swimming pool. He loved it when it was filled with his children, grandchildren, and special friends.
Hey Buck! We will always remember what you taught us...We will take care of Momma, stick together, work hard, play hard, and shoot straight ❤️ Forever Loved.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 18, 2025, starting at 10 am, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with a funeral service to begin at 11 am. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
