Otis Houston Edwards, 67, of Disputanta, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at MCV hospital after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lamont Lynn Edwards, Sr., and Vivian Rae Updike and husband, Marshall; and sister-in-law, Lana Sears. Otis was born November 2, 1948 in Petersburg and he grew up in Prince George County. He joined the U.S. Army and served his country honorably for three years. He was a combat engineer during the Vietnam War in 1970 and 1971. Upon retiring from the Army in 1971, he built a house in Prince George and worked as an operator at ICI American Incorporated (27 years of service). Otis never met a stranger and he was known for helping anyone who needed it. When his stepfather became ill, he took care of him and his elderly mother. He was very close to his family and friends. He loved cookouts, fishing at Kerr Lake and hunting. Otis is survived by his wife, Ruby Sears Edwards; daughter, Janie Coalson (Chuck); son, Otis Houston Edwards, Jr. (Mark Brabrand); grandsons, Chase and Jacob Coalson; sister, Vivian Stell (Pete); brother-in-laws, Henry Sears (Hazel) , and Charlie Sears; two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens.
