Novella T. Chavis, 87, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012. Upon her retirement, after 35 years at Hercules, Inc., she and her husband spent many winters in Florida. Novella was a very active and dedicated auxiliary volunteer at John Randolph Medical Center for 25 years. She worked in the gift shop and was on the Auxiliary Board since 1994, even served as treasurer for four years. She enjoyed painting ceramics and playing all kinds of card games with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Thomas (Bubba) L. Chavis; parents Herbert L. and Pansy Burnett Thompson; brothers, Otis C. Thompson and Herbert L. Thompson, Jr.; and sisters, Charlotte T. Casey, Genell T. Estes, and Evelyn T. Arvin. She is survived by her daughters, Janet C. Antol and Vicki L. Thurmond; son, Tommy L. Chavis III; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister, Betty T. Orlando and husband Joe; sisters-in-law, Marie C. Podlewski and Elizabeth C. Boyette (Glenn); brother-in-law David L. Chavis, of Deltona, Florida; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sep 29, 2012 at First Christian Church of Hopewell, followed by a memorial service.
