Myrtle Whitaker

Myrtle Bowman Whitaker, 87, of Colonial Heights passed away on October 11, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Irving Eugene and Josephine Hawkins Bowman, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell Everett Whitaker Sr; a granddaughter, Tricia Whitaker White; and a daughter â?? in â?? law, Frances Whitaker. Mrs. Whitaker retired after 40 years of service with Titmus Optical. She is survived by two sons, Russell Everett Whitaker, Jr. and wife, Gay , and Jerry Wayne Whitaker; two daughters, Carol W. Hunt and husband, Richard, Bonnie Burton and husband, Donnie; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; devoted sister, Frances â??Tookieâ? Gill; two sisters-in- law, Louise Kitchen and Ferbie Bowman; and special friends Cindy Hendrick, and Wynn and Susan Hasty; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family would like to thank the staff of the Colonial Heights Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and Odyssey Hospice for their loving care and compassion towards Mrs. Whitaker.
