Murphy " Woody " Woodruff

Murphy “Woody” Woodruff 90, of Hopewell passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Josephine Woodruff; parents, William and Blanche Weaver Woodruff; and his brother, Mack Woodruff. Mr. Woodruff was a WWII veteran and served his country proudly in the United States Army. He retired after almost 30 years with Allied Chemical now Honeywell, was a member of Local Union 12103 where he served as president, member of the VFW, Woodman of the World, a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church and attended Powers Memorial Baptist Church in Hopewell. Mr. Woodruff enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, taking care of his yard in which he won several certificates, and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Donna Hawkins, Lynne Franklin; grandsons, Christopher Hawkins, Zachary Franklin; sister, Lois Allen; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 3pm to 5pm on Sunday, December, 16, 2012 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A service will be held 1pm at Powers Memorial Baptist Church 2807 Jackson Street Hopewell, VA, 23860. Interment will follow at Appomattox Cemetery.
