Michael James Balke

Michael James Balke, 69, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Born and raised in Yaphank, Long Island, New York, Michael was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Balke; his brother, Robert Balke; and his sister, Diane Rebel.

He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Fred Balke, and Fred's wife, Beth; his sister-in-law, Doris Balke; his stepsister, Linda Canezo; his brother-in-law, Paul Rebel; and his many cherished nieces and nephews.

Michael worked as a machine operator and found great joy in cooking for those he loved. His kitchen was often filled with the sounds of rock and roll and doo-wop as he prepared his favorite dishes. Thanksgiving and Christmas held a special place in his heart, giving him treasured opportunities to cook, celebrate, and spend time with family.

Michael will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Tylers Retreat and Bridge Hospice for their love and care shown towards Michael.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
