Dr. Melody Lynn Moore

August 9, 1958 — February 8, 2026

Dr. Melody Lynn Moore departed this life on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with a stroke. Born on August 9, 1958, Melody led a life filled with accomplishment and the pursuit of a better life. Melody's passion was her family and education.

She believed education was the way for people to better themselves. She came from a large blue-collar family and was always seeking opportunities for growth. Melody also strongly believed in providing others with the same opportunity for education. Recognized as an up-and-coming higher education leader, she was selected as Dean of Professional and Technical students at John Tyler Community College, where she was integral in establishing several academic programs. Reflecting back to her roots, her passion was in developing technical programs. Always seeking opportunities for growth, Melody was selected to serve as Vice President at Eastern Shore Community College, where she worked with school and community leaders to provide new opportunities for students from the rural eastern shore of Virginia.

Retirement called her name from the Virginia Community College System, but she didn't like retirement; she needed another challenge and opportunity and thus capped her career as the Associate Provost of Academic Affairs at Carroll Community College in Maryland.

Most important to Melody was her family, which revolved around soccer and time at her favorite "happy" places, Onancock and Chincoteague, VA. She is survived by her husband, Joe Sheridan; her daughter, Rachel "Ricci" and her husband, Roland Rollinger; her granddaughter, Max; and numerous other family and friends, who supported her over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Melody's memory may be made to James River Hospice, 9100 Arboretum Pkwy., Ste 290, N. Chesterfield, VA 23236. The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Melody at a later date.
