Mary Jane Spivey Snead

Mary Jane Spivey Snead was born in Petersburg, VA, on March 20, 1927 to Mattie Clark and William Robert Spivey. She is survived by two sons, Harry Lamont Snead, III, and Robert Clark Snead and his wife, Ellen, and their son, Cody McFadden Snead. Other survivors include Mary Jane's brother, Robert L. Spivey and his wife, Jean, and their children, Margaret Clark Spivey, Roberta Spivey Willingham, and Robert L. Spivey, Jr.

After graduating from Petersburg High School and Westhampton College at the University of Richmond, Mary Jane settled in Richmond with her husband, Harry L. Snead, Jr., where she taught elementary school in Chesterfield County. She subsequently served for 15 years at St. Michael's Episcopal School, first as fourth-grade teacher and then as school librarian. She was a member of the congregation of St. Michael's Church for over 50 years. Mary Jane volunteered at Chippenham Hospital for 30 years before finally retiring in 2002.
