Mary Margaret Diehl Wood, 91, a resident of the Petersburg Home for Ladies and a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County, passed away suddenly July 28, 2012 at her daughterâ??s home in Massachusetts. Born July 30, 1920 in Dinwiddie, she was the daughter of the late Thomas C. Diehl and Lilla Gerow Diehl. Beloved wife of the late Clark M. Wood, Jr. Preceded in death by her brother Thomas C. Diehl, Jr. and sister Jean D. Bailey. Mrs. Wood was a retired Medical Records Technician for the State of Virginia. Over the years she was active in many organizations, including the Gerow Home Demonstration Club, Federated Womanâ??s Club of Petersburg, and the Twigs volunteers at Petersburg General Hospital. Known for her needlework skill, she was an award-winning member of the Quilterâ??s Guild. She was a member of the Frances Bland Randolph Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Fort Henry Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists; and the Mayflower Society. Mrs. Wood was secretary of the Petersburg Home for Ladies Resident Council and a Member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg. She is survived by two daughters, Lilla Diehl Wood Costello and husband, Joseph P. of Hingham, MA and Lois Wood Schmidt and husband, COL (RET) Rodney H.C. of Alexandria VA; grandsons, Michael J. Costello of New York, NY and Patrick C. Costello of San Francisco, CA; granddaughter, Mary Elisabeth Schmidt of Alexandria VA; brother, Edward T. Diehl and wife, Mary Anne of Richmond; sister-in-law, Charlotte S. Diehl of Colonial Heights; two nieces, Joan S. Mills and Sarah T. Diehl; four nephews, William W. Southall, Stephen C. Diehl, Thomas A. Diehl II, and R. Timothy Diehl. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday, August 6th in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 7th at the funeral home with interment to follow in Blandford Cemetery.
