Mary Douglas Hays Krout, 91, lifelong resident of Hopewell, passed away Thanksgiving morning Thursday, November 27, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Henry Hays and Mary Spence Hays. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henry Krout; three sons, Bobby, Ricky, and Thad Krout; and grandson, Chris. Mary Douglas was the founder of two support groups, Compassionate Friends and Healing After Suicide. She was a member of the American Association of Suicidology, Suicide Prevention Advocacy Network ,and American Foundation Suicide Prevention. Mrs. Krout was also a grief counselor. She was a volunteer for many years at John Randolph Medical Center and was named Volunteer of the year. She worked for A & P Tea Company retiring after 52 years. She was an avid Square Dancer, Line Dancer, and Clogger. She was a force of nature and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by a son, Dr. Homer Lee Krout, II and his wife, Betty; two daughters, Kathy Krout, Debbie Krout and her husband, Robert Rushing; daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Krout; special friend Gracie Dodson; grandchildren, Kenny, James, Marion, Clay, and Sam; great-grandchildren, Hunter, McKenzie, Taylor, Dusty, Katie, Christopher, Connor, and Isaiah; sisters, Alice Maguire and Lois O’Brien; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, outlaws and a few riff-raff. A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
