Mary Jane Manhattan White

Mary Jane Manhattan White, 81, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on April 5, 2026, surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Michael and Steven; daughter, Melinda; parents, Ambrose and Alma Manhattan; and brothers, Weir and Jimmy Manhattan. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Leslie White, Jr.; her daughter, Shannon White; and her grandsons, Jack and Duncan Ring.

Mary Jane was born in New Jersey and graduated from John Marshall High School, where she met and fell in love with the boy next door who would become her husband. She worked as a telephone operator with C&P Telephone Company and later at Ukrop's.

She was a talented seamstress, an avid cake decorator, and a gifted artist - talents she proudly passed on to her son, Michael. Mary Jane was a kind and giving woman who fiercely loved her family and never met a stranger she wouldn't take under her wing. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, April 12, 2026 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. A funeral service for Mary Jane will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 2:00pm, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America in her memory.
