Margaret Virginia Teefey Reese

January 7, 1930 — June 19, 2025

Margaret Virginia Teefey Reese, of Hopewell, Virginia, died peacefully on June 19, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in Richmond, Virginia, Margaret called Hopewell home for the past 65 years. She was the daughter of the late William Joseph Teefey and Virginia Rebman Teefey of Richmond, Virginia, and the 5th of 12 children. Her husband, Ollie Reese, Jr., preceded Margaret in death. She is survived by her children: Elizabeth Reese, of Richmond, VA; Patricia Reese, husband, Tony Embry of Southern Shores, NC and granddaughter, Claire Marie Embry of NY; Virginia Reese Coles, husband, Mark Coles and grandsons, John Reese Coles and Andrew Harrison Coles of Santa Monica, CA; and, Ollie Reese III and Meredith Montgomery of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Jane Marie Teefey Worsham of Richmond, VA; and brother, Joseph Michael Teefey, Sr., his wife Judy Collins Teefey of Richmond, VA.

Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She attended St. Paul's Elementary School and St. Patricks' High School in Richmond. After high school, she began working at the C&P Telephone Co. and American Tobacco Co. At the end of the war, Margaret volunteered as a Gray Lady supporting the American Red Cross' effort by assisting and caring for wounded servicemen at McGuire Veterans Hospital.

When her children started school, Margaret volunteered as a Room Mother; an Instructional and Reading Aide; and Teacher's Aide at St. James Catholic School, DuPont Elementary School, Patrick Copeland Elementary School and Woodlawn Elementary School. She led both the Brownie and Girl Scout troops. She was also active in the PTA and held the position of Treasurer at Patrick Copeland Elementary School. Her steadfast support for her children's academics, extracurricular activities and sports made her the parent, volunteer and chaperone you could always count on to be present, engaged and available whenever needed.

She continued to work with the C&P Telephone Co. part time as a PBX operator and Traffic Study Coordinator at Allied Chemical and Firestone in Hopewell/Petersburg for over ten years. In 1985, she decided to pursue her passion for helping others by returning to school and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) where she cared for patients at John Randolph Hospital and other medical offices in the Tri -Cities area. When she stopped nursing, she continued to volunteer at John Randolph well into her 80's and enjoyed spending time with her friends at the hospital. Margaret was a voracious reader and enthusiastic bridge player. Margaret was an active member of Beta Sigma Sorority and made lifelong friendships through their sisterhood.

For over 65 years, Margaret was a devoted and active member of the St. James Catholic Church and parish where she generously gave her time to school, church, and parish projects.

She especially loved all the times spent with her grandchildren and found extraordinary joy traveling to California, Northern Virginia, and the beaches in the Outer Banks to be with them. Above all, she cherished being a grandmother.
