Lula Emogene Simmons, 86, of North Chesterfield, VA, died on March 12, 2026. She was born and raised in Richlands, VA to the late Virgil Bert Stevens, Sr. and Pearl Martin Stevens. She was a strong woman who never met a stranger and could find the good in anyone she met. She retired from Children's Hospital after 40 years as a Physical Therapist. She was a devoted caregiver who worked hand-in-hand with all of her patients, from babies to teens. She enjoyed organizing and planning socials for the seniors at The City of Refuge Church. She loved the outdoors and spent many an afternoon at Pocahontas Park. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in their walk through life, through their accomplishments and triumphs. She was a rock who supported everyone around her. She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 65 years, James Garfield Simmons; her son, Ronald Simmons; and her sister, Francis Coleman. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Harris (Dan); her daughter-in-law, Rhonda Simmons; her grandchildren, Jessica Carver (Ron), Justin Simmons (Melissa), Lauryn Harris, and Dylan Harris; her great-grandchildren, Skylar, Kinsley, Canaan, and Ellory; her brothers, Virgil Stevens Jr, and John Allen Stevens; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be handling the services privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of Richmond/VCU. The family would like to thank Trinity Hospice for their care and help during this time.
