Lucile Lewis, age 101, died peacefully in her home on May 31, 2025. She was born in Oasis, Wisconsin, on March 21, 1924, to Louis and Ellen (Allison) Bassler and was the second of six children.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Lynn Markin, Beverly Frisch, and Leona Dey; and her son, Kevin Lewis. She is survived by her sons, Barry, Eric, and Jason; her daughters, Shelley Ames and Heidi Stonebraker; her sister, Shirley (Rowland) Mueller; her brother, Jerome Bassler; her granddaughters, Danielle (Ames) Glennon and Melissa (Ames) Garret; her grandson, Corey Stonebraker; and her 6 great-grandchildren.
Lucile enlisted at age 20 in the United States Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class. She was an Aviation Machinist Mate Striker and a member of the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service).
Lucile enjoyed spending her time knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She made hats, scarves, quilts, and in earlier times, dressed dolls for needy children. She was a member of Knit Wits, Web of Hope, and others, devoting her time to giving to others. Lucile was very proud of her military service and her volunteer service.
She will be greatly missed by her family. Lucile will be laid to rest in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, at a family p;ot with military honors.
