Lois M. Long, 98, of Chester, VA, died peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2013, at Tyler’s Retreat in Chester. She was born on August 13, 1915; she was the youngest of seven children and the last survivor of her siblings. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Merton H. Long. After high school, she took nurse’s training at Petersburg Hospital and practiced nursing off and on for a number of years. She found her true passion as a teacher at Laura Sloan’s Nursery School in Chester; and also was faithful to her church throughout her life. Mrs. Long is survived by her sons, Frank W. Fitzgerald of Petersburg, David M. Fitzgerald (Gayle) of Chester; and three grandchildren, Matthew Fitzgerald, Scott Fitzgerald, and Amy Dubs (Kevin) all of Richmond. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013 at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Road, Chester. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester. Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chester Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2370, Chester, VA 23831. Condolences may be registered online at www.jtmorriss.com .
