Lindo Granville "Pete" Thornton, 82, of Hopewell, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, died peacefully at his home on May 29, 2026 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman V. and Ora Thornton of Covel, West Virginia; one brother, Nathan Thornton; two sisters; Norma Jean Gilbert and Betty Sue Snyder; and best friend, Milo Marr.
Those left to cherish his memory are brother, Freeman Thornton, and wife, Shirley; sister, Judy Webb, and husband, Charles; brother, George Thornton; niece, Becky Jessup, and husband, Butch; nephew, Del Snyder II, and wife, Stacie; Mollie Marr, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lindo proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. He worked as an operator at Firestone, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service.
The family would like to take this time and thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice, as well as his daily caregivers, Carol, Kaitlynn, Karlee, and Rhonda for loving Mr. Pete (Uncle Pete) as much as his family loved him. All services will be private.
