Lillian Hyatt Hawthorne Burrow

November 9, 1925 — October 7, 2015

Lillian Hyatt Hawthorne Burrow, 89, of Prince George County, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fayette Allen Hawthorne and Letitia Mae Livesay Hawthorne. The youngest of eight children, she was the last surviving of the Hawthorne brothers and sisters, Fayette Allen Hawthorne, Jr., Edna Mae H. Lyon, Francis D. Hawthorne, Berry W. Hawthorne, Virginia H. Young, Elizabeth H. Wood and A. Hunter Hawthorne. Her husband of 56 years, E. W. “Dick” Burrow passed away in 2001 and she is survived by five daughters and their families, Brenda B. Schraner (Terry), JoAnne B. Davis (Henry), Edwina B. Starke (Charles Shortt), Katherine B. Hackett, and Rebecca B. Kirk (Stewart). Dick and Lillian delighted in their eleven grandchildren, Amanda Schraner Terrell, Wesley Warren Starke, Kimberly Schraner Stech, Brent Harrison Starke, Lindsey Rae Horne, Henry Earl Davis, III, Walter Craig Bartholomew, Joseph Ryan Kirk, Elliott Burrow Kirk, Jodi Sue Hackett and Jeffery Hunter Hackett. She is also survived by eight great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter, Stone Starke, Caden Kirk, Tripp Horne, Colin Stech, Brendan Terrell, Ethan Davis, Hyatt Horne, Chase Stech and Raleigh Kirk. She is also survived by two dear Burrow sisters-in-law, Helen B. Adams and Ruth B. Figg (Kenneth L. Figg); and numerous Hawthorne and Burrow nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. While raising her family, Lillian also worked outside the home in various capacities as a civilian employee at Fort Lee, in the Guidance office at Prince George High School and for many years with her husband at E.W. Burrow Logging. She was a member of Newville United Methodist Church and the Woman’s Club of Prince George County. The club most recently awarded her Member Emeritus status. Affectionately known as “The Two Lillians”, she and her friend Lillian Emerson worked together on many club and Church projects. Lillian enjoyed music, dancing, playing her ukulele, playing Scrabble, Spades, and most importantly cooking and entertaining with her family and friends. Even as her memory began to fade, she was still interested in “what’s going on in Newville” and what was new with her children and grandchildren. She remained a sunny encouragement to those around her and an inspiration as she lived her last years in the moment with all the wonderful memories, and with the love of family and friends. The family would like to thank Misti Binford Culler and staff at Brighter Living who became an extended loving family. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the funeral home with the Rev. Gilbert M. Elder officiating. Interment will follow at Newville United Methodist Church Cemetery, 9010 Hines Rd. Disputanta, VA 23842. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Burrow’s daughters respectfully suggest donations to Newville United Methodist Church or to your favorite Charity. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
