Lena McCaffity “Sissy” Whitehead, 72, of Chester, formerly of Hopewell, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Born in Craven County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Columbus and Oma McLawhorn McCaffity. Mrs. Whitehead is preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Sarabeth Jones; six siblings, Clyde McCaffity, Jr., Troy L. “John” McCaffity, Joann McCaffity, Lovey E. “Tootsie” McCaffity, Bruce A. “Tommy” McCaffity and Nancy McCaffity Poole. Sissy worked for Henderson Child Development Center for over twenty years where she specialized in caring for two year olds. She was known as a very uplifting person who never met a stranger, a caring and loving caregiver for many, enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Jerry D. Whitehead, Sr.; children, Kathy Coleman (Bob), J. “Hollywood” Whitehead (Kelly), Christy Whitehead-Hiltz (Kevin), Kaila Wilson (JD); grandchildren, Derek Jones (Stephanie), James Ryan Jones (Miranda); great-grandchildren, Sydney, Allison , Lucious; siblings, Milton G. “Pete” McCaffity, Willie E. “Nuke” McCaffity, Billie E. McCaffity and wife, Rose, Oma M. “Boogie” Chamberlain and husband, Phil, Jackie R. “Jack” McCaffity and wife, Kathy; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and special friends. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son and Cremation Services. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2014 also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Condolences may be registered at
