L. Hunter Beazley, Jr.

L. Hunter Beazley, Jr., of Chester, passed peacefully into life eternal on January 6, 2026, three months shy of his 90th birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Daniels Beazley. He was the son of the late Lebbeus H. and Laurene Chewning Beazley. He was also preceded in death by his half-brothers, Cecil and Chisholm Beazley; his brother, Julian; and sisters, Bessie Dowdy, Ethel Byrtus, and Caroline Paeplow.

Hunter is survived by his loving and cherished partner, Martha Gordon Miles. He is also survived by his son, Cameron Hunter Beazley; nephew, James V. Daniels; brothers, Robert and Garland; sisters, Shirley Taylor and Eleanor Beazley Vouga; and numerous other nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Hunter was a graduate of the University of Richmond and was a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army upon graduation.

Hunter retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation as Director of Labor Relations, working in Petersburg, VA, and Louisville, KY. He was active in civic organizations including President of the Chester Jaycees when it won Outstanding Jaycee Chapter in Virginia. He was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, American Legion, Chester Lions, and Colonial Heights Senior Civic Center and Golf Association. He was a lifelong active member of Chester United Methodist Church, serving as Chairman of Trustees. He was appointed to the Chesterfield Board of Zoning Appeals and served for 15 years.

Hunter enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to visit most of the states, Europe, Great Britain, Canada, and Russia. He was known to all as a God-fearing man who lived an honorable life.

A funeral service for Hunter will be held at 1:00pm, on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Chester United Methodist Church, 12132 Percival St., Chester, VA 23831, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 12:00pm, at the church.
