Laura Barrett

Laura Susie Barrett, 95, of Dendron, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Born on June 12, 1916 in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late Montra and Rosa Brockwell Johnson. She was the widow of Clifton Barrett.

She graduated from Dendron High School with high marks. Laura was the oldest member of Dendron United Methodist Church where she assisted with Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed sewing, dancing, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Barrett is survived by her daughter, Nancy Barrett Smith (Joseph Gwaltney); grandson, Michael Darden Smith; several nieces and nephews of the Holland family; and special caretaker, Rita.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 11:00 am in Wakefield Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Ray Rowland. The family will receive friends at other times at the home, 199 Liberty St., Dendron, VA 23839. Memorial contributions may be made to Dendron united Methodist Church, P.O. Box 118, Surry, VA 23883.
